How to Prepare Your Business for Mobile-Geddon

June 7, 2015

It has been nearly 2 months since Google updated their algorithm which determines how websites rank in Google’s search results. As some of you may already know, if your site is not “mobile friendly”, then it likely took a hit and dropped in ranking. The new algorithm favors business websites with responsive designs which are sites intended to work on all devices, including tablets, smart phones and your home computers. This is extremely important as statistics show by this year (2015), online searches using smart phones will surpass online searches using computers. This means if you aren’t ready, you are likely losing business already and it will only get worse the longer you wait.

So what can you do? How do you even know for sure if your site is “mobile friendly”? Thankfully figuring out if your site is mobile friendly and/or “responsive” is a simple and straight forward process. All you really need to do is go to this site and type in the URL to your website. The results will show if your site is indeed mobile friendly or not.

So what if your site isn’t mobile friendly? Well, there are a few things you can do. You can try to build a mobile theme for your site yourself and then setup code on your site that recognizes what kind of device is viewing the site and having it redirect to the appropriate site (your mobile or non-mobile site) based on what device it is. But who has the time or the patience to learn how to do that kind of stuff? Further more, why not just revamp your whole site so its new, fresh looking and SEO optimized.
